What is a Martingale Collar?
Share
A martingale collar is a dog collar with two loops designed to prevent a dog from slipping out of it, making it useful for breeds with long necks or those who are escape artists. It works by tightening moderately when the dog pulls but loosening when they stop, ensuring a safe fit without choking. This collar is best used for supervised leash walks and training and should not be left on an unsupervised dog.

How it works
• The collar has a larger loop that goes around the dog's neck and a smaller control loop where the leash is attached.
• When the dog pulls or tenses, the leash pulls on the smaller loop, causing the larger loop to tighten slightly, snugging against the neck.
• This limited tightening prevents the dog from backing out of the collar and escaping.
• Once the dog stops pulling, the collar slackens, returning to a comfortable fit.
How to use and fit
• Measure accurately: Measure the widest part of your dog's head and their neck, and choose a size that can slip over the head but not back off when the leash is taut.
• Ensure proper fit: When relaxed, the collar should be snug but comfortable, with enough room to fit two fingers between the collar and the dog's neck.
• Use for walks: Martingale collars are intended for supervised activities, like leash walks and training sessions.
• Do not use off-leash: For safety reasons, do not leave a martingale collar on an unsupervised dog.
